Winter break is over and school is back in session! The beginning of the spring semester is always interesting because it’s a mixture of the old and the new. This semester you are now more aware of your campus but now you are into an entirely new semester with new classes, new faces, and new professors. It may be a little less overwhelming than the beginning of the fall semester but it’s still a whole new ball game. Once this semester starts, you’ll eventually start to fall into the same patterns you do every semester but in order to get your semester off to the best start possible you need to put good habits into practice right now! There are several things you can do to make sure you get a good start.
Get organized! – Take your calendar, grab your syllabi, and put every assignment, test, project, paper, and whatever else your teacher has informed you about in it. This will help you in the weeks to come because you can strategically plan your weeks by what is due sooner than other and make time for bigger projects. It will also help you remember everything you need to do so you don’t forget to complete an assignment or prepare for a quiz. Also, let each class have its own binder or spiral and its own folder on your computer to keep organized. Doing this helps avoid confusion and stress later on in the semester.
Go to class! The whole point of college is to learn and to get an education. There is rarely going to be a time when you shouldn’t go to class, or when you will have a good excuse to not go. The biggest reason to go to class is to get the instruction that your professor can give you. You can learn the information in a book and you can read the PowerPoint your professor puts online but you might not understand the concepts as well. You need to be in class so that the professor can explain to you what is being said and you can get the context of the discussion not just the words on a slide. So don’t get off to a bad start and actually go to class!
