What kind of assistance is available for Choctaw students attending college?

There are plenty of assistance programs available for Choctaw students attending college that sometimes it can be overwhelming. Have no fear though because I am going to tell you a little bit about the programs and ways for you to obtain additional information to put you at ease in no time.

Scholarship Advisement Program (SAP): SAP wears many hats when it comes to assisting college students on their journey through school. SAP’s two primary goals include: preparing students for college and once enrolled, keep students on track for a college degree. To accomplish these goals SAP offers many service that include college selection counseling, admission test preparation, helping students find scholarships, grants, internships and fellowships, summer program advisement, and peer advisement and mentoring. Career Development Program: The Choctaw Nation Career Development Program provides a comprehensive array of career guidance services, workforce skills development, academic skills enhancement, and financial education that enables members of the Choctaw Nation to obtain recognized certifications needed to enter careers and/or advance existing careers that are self-sustaining and contribute to personal financial security, healthy lifestyles, and the enhancement of regional, state and national economy. Service that are available are career guidance services, assessment testing, academic remediation, financial assistance, individualized developmental accounts, career readiness, and employment services. Higher Education and Grant Program: The Choctaw Nation works to ensure that special needs of the Choctaw students are individually considered with their assistance to prevent unnecessary withdrawals from higher education institutions. Thus cumulative GPA will determine the amount you will receive if chosen for the scholarship; which can pay up to $1,000 per semester. College Clothing Allowance: The Choctaw Nation offers a one-time clothing grant to Choctaw tribal members enrolled in a 2 year college program, 2 year vocational training program or 4 year university degree plan. A college student is required to be enrolled as “full-time”. A student, who has completed the most current semester, earned a minimum of 10 credit hours and GPA of 2.00 or above in that semester; is eligible to make application. Laptop Program: The College Computer Distribution Program is available for full-time college or university students who have completed at least one full semester and is enrolled in a current (not Career/Vocational Technology students) and who are members of the Choctaw Nation.
